The total number is approximate, it is taking into account bilinear overlaps between the inclusive streams. Integrated cosmic data rate for ATLAS versus time since Sep 13, 2008 (ie, after the single-beam runs). For most of the runs the full ATLAS detector (except for CSC) was included in the combined partition. In some high-rate runs, the Liquid-Argon Calorimeter was taken out, allowing trigger accept rates of approximately 500 Hz (corresponding to the high rises in the curves). Due to the inclusive streaming model, the overall sum of the events in all streams exceeds the total number of accepted events. The sum of RPC, TGC and MBTS triggers approximates to good precision the full cosmic rate taken.

Here you see an anti-correlation as well as a correlation as the tracks found in the top of the muon system are assigned the wrong charge (as the track is going towards the IP instead of away from it). Zooming into the centre of this plot you would see the effect of energy loss of the muons in the calorimeter. On average the momentum measured in the top of the muon system would be 3GeV more than that measured in the ID, which would be 3 GeV more than that measured in the bottom of the muon system.
