The table below is just a guideline and not to be rigorously followed. Indeed, some of the suggestions of tasks can only be fulfilled at a later time when more data becomes available or requiring a deeper understanding which is obtained later. This guideline is only for the volunteers helping with the data analysis.

Day CrypticOntics (Team: India) Beamcats (Team: Philippines)
Sunday - 23rd September Introduction to the tools:
  • Root
  • Jupyter
Possible tasks:
  • Write a ttree
  • Read a ttree
  • Make some histograms

Monday - 24th September Particle Identification:
  • Identify protons with TOF
  • Identify electrons with Cherenkov detector
  • Muons will survive through materials
Possible tasks:
  • Plot histogram of particle TOF
  • Use the histogram to calculate the fraction of protons in a spill
  • Is the fraction constant versus momenta?

Tuesday - 25th September Reconstruct the position of a hit in a detector:
  • Take & understand the raw data from one detector (DWC or MM)
  • Then reconstruct x,y position in detector coordinates
Possible tasks:
  • Make a 2D plot showing the hit positions

Run Geant4 simulation of experiment.
  • Understand which parameters affect the depth of the Bragg peak
Possible tasks:
  • Compare with data. If different, why?

Wednesday - 26th September Morning, buffer and continuation of previous day

Afternon, Sponsor day & VIP visit

Thursday - 27th September Calculate the deflection angle:
  • Take hits and reconstruct tracks
  • Use tracks before and after magnet to get angle
Possible tasks:
  • Make histogram of deflection angle for one run
  • Why isn't the histogram a single bin?
  • Compare angle with prediction from Lorentz Equation

Explore the data

Possible tasks:

  • Plot histogram of charge in scintillator vs TOF
  • Isolate the charge deposited by the protons only

Friday - 28th September Start preparing final results
  • Need to join information from several runs
Possible tasks:
  • Plot deflection angle as a function of magnetic field
  • Plot deflection angle as a function of beam momentum

Start preparing final results
  • Need to join information from several runs
Possible tasks:
  • Plot the proton charge against the water depth

Saturday - 29th September How to improve the data:
  • Alignment of the detectors
  • Local detector coordinates to global coordinates

How to improve the data:
  • Use detectors after tank to veto particles that go through

Sunday - 30th September Prepare final results for presentation at end of day
