Next meeting

The doodle poll suggests Thursday or Friday 11h. We decided it will depend on availability of rooms. Friday 11 is chosen as 2-R-30 is free on that time. Thanks to Gloria for moving the Gauss meeting.

Minutes of the Data Quality Meeting of Monday 11 August 2008

Histogram Analyser

Giacomo presented the histogram analyser used online. The transparencies are here. There are essentially two main parts the histogram database (see http://lbhistogramdb.cern.ch/) and the OMALib analyser package.

We are interested in using this as it will be run anyway in the pit on the histograms output by the monitoring tasks in the MF. One of them is the Brunel job, which is likely to be very similar to a typical reconstruction job. Giacomo says (last slide) that we can use the system after a few changes:

  • The histogram database would need a different database server, the one from the pit being invisible outside of IP8. The CERN Oracle server could be used.
  • OMALib would need a different input. But already now it runs on added root files, which is equivalent to the root files we would have from the offline jobs.

This seems promising in view of using the same tools on and offline. Ulrich (RICH) and Patrick (offline analysis) will have a look.

More discussion was not possible as evo let us down...

Brunel monitoring

Patrick had a look at the Brunel histograms produced in a typical (default options) Brunel job. There are a lot of RICH monitoring histograms and Muon Checking. Eventually every subsystem should produce standard and relevant histograms for every production job. These could be switched off for MC, but the default should be that the interesting histograms are produced.
  • Monitoring histos exist of the calo but are off by default.
  • The OT has an OTMonitoring package, also off by default.
  • The velo has a lot of histograms produced in Vetra. It is not clear if they are available in Brunel, but this should not be difficult.
  • Johan Blouw is setting up the reconstruction job online and the tracking histograms (see his talk on 30/7). Thomas suggested to ask him to make a status report at the next DQ meeting.
