Practical Information

North Area

All practical information for users of the North Area can be found in the North Area Handbook.

The layout of the H8A area can be seen in the EHN1 experimental hall drawings.

The area is approximately 6 metres wide and the height to the beam line is 50 inches (127 cm).

Access to the area

The test beam will take place in the North Area (building 887) in Prévessin. The whole building (including the control rooms) is classified as a supervised area so we need to wear dosimeters. You also need the dosimeter to access the building. Safety shoes and a helmet are also required to work in the area. To obtain a personal dosimeter, you need to do the following:

  1. Make sure you have a valid medical certificate: link.
  2. Follow the radiological protection course for "Supervised Radiation Areas": link.
  3. Follow the instructions on the "Dosimetry Service Website".
It is also possible to apply for a temporary dosimeter which is valid for two weeks. However, this can only be done once per year.

To get the rights to be able to open the control room, request the access via the EDH system. When making the access requests, select Prevessin in the "Access Site" field, 887 as "Access Building", and 0887-1-Q43 (or 0887-1-Q40) as "Access Zone".
