300 k events with hits in the pixel            <-- will be done by Max and the Berkeley group

what you propose is certainly doable. The easiest way is to plug your smearing into the simulation code, rather than using an athena
alsgorithm.
Look for example at what we do in the EventFilters
Simulation/G4Atlas/G4AtlasUtilities/src
where you can find VertexPositioners (which moves each vertex by a given quantity) and PrimaryEventRotations (which changes directionof each particle). Some combination of the two should fit your needs.
I suggest to write your own EventFilter, following what is done in G4AtlasUtilities. You can then easily activate it from jO in the
simulation.
Of course I am willing to help with the technical details.
