Software and computing

  • Basic programming: C++ and python
  • ROOT (developed by CERN): https://root.cern.ch. Try to install ROOT on your computer (Linux or Mac) and follow the user's guide to play with example codes. Start with first few chapters on introduction, histograms, graphs, fits, and also chapter 12 on TTree.
  • CMS software and computing: https://twiki.cern.ch/twiki/bin/view/CMSPublic/WorkBook
    • Register as a CERN user and get CERN account
    • Register with CMS so that you can access to CMS internal pages.
    • Understand CMS computing model
    • Follow rest of instructions to start learning how to analyzer CMS data (e.g., EDAnalyzer)
  • Getting an account at Rice computing cluster (Wei will make the request)
