CERN HPC cluster

Since end 2017, two new HPC clusters have been setup here at CERN by the IT department for users of MPI applications.

Two new clusters, each composed of 72 nodes with 20 cores and 128Gb each, have been installed and made available to run jobs as from December 2017. The usage of these clusters was widely discussed at the ABP CWG meeting on 23 November 2017, and detailed information on the hardware and organisation can be found here. Further information can be found at in the material presented at the ABP-CWG meeting of the 3 May 2018.

Please note that these are dedicated facilities for parallel computing applications, e.g. applications running MPI across more than 16 cores for each simulation. Access is only granted to specific user groups, as indicated in: KB0004975 If you are member of one of the teams mentioned on this page, please contact the relevant contact person for your Department (to be added to the relevant e-group, e.g. service-hpc-be)

If you have questions about running your jobs on the HPC clusters, please raise a ticket through the dedicated web portal.

More information on the CERN HPC cluster can be found at the Indico page of the HPC users meeting, which took place on 24 May, 2018, in the framework of the ABP-CWG. The next HPC users meeting will be held in September 2018.

Regular meetings are held by IT to share information on the facility development a https://indico.cern.ch/category/7950/

Please note that the High Performance/High Througput batch capacity for other use cases is available on the lxbatch facility at CERN.
