AMS MC Production

Introduction

The (MC) Production is based on DataSets, the latter consists of JobTemplates.

Job Templates Candidates

should be put in /afs/cern.ch/ams/Offline/AMSDataDir/DataManagement/Templates2Add dierectory

Format consists of template comment, parameters and datacards

  • Comment (mandatory)
    • a line with # as first char
  • Parameters (seen as XYZ=blabla)
    • OPENCLOSE=0/1/2/3/-citeid close/cern/notcern/all/only spec cite
    • TIMBEG,TIMEND first/last event time in ddmmyyyy format
    • PART geant3 parti id
    • PMIN PMAX min/max momentum in gev/c
    • TOTALEVENTS total number of triggers (for standard datacards of pi*3.9^2 m2sr acceptance)
    • CPUPEREVENTPERGHZ exactly as it says. Should be defined for each template by running a test job.

Instruction to make new MC jobs templates available for prodiction /simulation only/

  • log in as ams
  • cd /afs/cern.ch/ams/Offline/AMSDataDir/DataManagement/DataSets
  • mkdir name.BXYZ where name might be "protons" BXYZ is the build e.g. B530
  • cd name.BXYZ
  • touch version=v5.00
  • touch g4=true
  • touch build=.BXYZ (! note first .)
  • cp /afs/cern.ch/ams/Offline/AMSDataDir/DataManagement/Templates2Add/sometemplate.job . where sometmplate should be meaningful name.
  • goto production page and check the jobs are available for production

Production page

Number of jobs site can request based on formula:

If number of completed jobs is equal to 0 then number of allowed jobs is always 1. If not then:

ALLOWED_JOBS is maximum value of
2.2*CITE_CAPACITY*(COMPLETED_JOBS/(TOTAL_JOBS+1)+1-(TOTAL_JOBS-COMPLETED_JOBS))*CITE_REPUTATION
and
CAPACITY_JOBS-TOTAL_JOBS+COMPLETED_JOBS

where the CITE_REPUTATION is 1 by default and changed manually.

muons.v5

Positive muons from 3.9m cube top plane (log spectrum) 0.1-2500 gev v5 (PGTRACK):

mu.pl1.012500.job.txt

Some details about the template:
KINE 5 --> mu+
13=0.1 14=2500 --> 0.1-2500 GeV
TIMBEG=01102010 TIMEND=30112010 --> the time of the simulated events (meaningfull just to use, in recostruction, the real calibrations of a the same data taking period)
MCGEN 34=0 --> No focused

Template for KSC-like muons MC: mu5.ksc.b524.job

Template:

/afs/cern.ch/ams/Offline/AMSDataDir/DataManagement/Templates2Add/mu5.ksc.b524.job

Some details about the template:

  • mu+
  • flat log(P) spectrum in the momentum range 0.1-2500 GeV/c
  • From 01/10/2010 to 30/11/2010 -> use of real calibrations in simulation/reconstruction
  • No focusing on ECAL
  • Unbiased triggers

PostProduction

After journals/nt files are received in /f2users/scratch/MC/cite_name directory the

/f2users/scratch/MC/validate/parsejf.cron cron job runs every 4 hours.

log files are in /f2users/scratch/MC/validate/jf.yyyy-mm-dd:+hh.log
