Problems with the AFS LCG UI at CERN:

02 Feb 2007 : LCG UI version 3.0.10-1:

no account type / shell flavour problem and resolution references
1 any a) /afs/cern.ch/project/gd/LCG-share/current/etc/profile.d/grid_env.sh works only on SLC3, /afs/cern.ch/project/gd/egee/glite/ui_PPS_glite3.0_slc4/etc/profile.d/grid_env.sh works on SLC4 GGUS ticket: https://gusiwr.fzk.de/pages/ticket_details.php?ticket=17876
2 any a) /afs/cern.ch/project/gd/LCG-share/current/etc/profile.d/grid_env.sh corrupts python environment=, so python -c "import re; re.compile('')" fails when using local python 2.3 installation , reason: PATH appended so interpreter mixup; GGUS ticket: https://gus.fzk.de/pages/ticket_details.php?ticket=18021
b) affects users who source the LCG UI before starting Ganga (e.g. ATLAS), workaround: prepend to PATH /afs/cern.ch/project/gd/LCG-share/current/glite/bin
c) affects internal Ganga GridShell command execution;
Solution: LCG module updated in Ganga 4.2.8 to remove the explicit invocation of python interpreter:
Notes:
- DO NOT source LCG UI interface before starting Ganga
- Set LCG UI configuration scripts in [LCG] section of your ~/.gangarc file:
EDG_SETUP=/afs/cern.ch/project/gd/LCG-share/current/etc/profile.d/grid_env.sh
GLITE_SETUP=/afs/cern.ch/project/gd/LCG-share/current/etc/profile.d/grid_env.sh
Ganga uses these setup scripts to create an internal, isolated grid shell environment to run LCG commands.

10 Feb 2007 : LCG UI version 3.0.12-0:
The environment mixup problems are solved in this version of LCG UI.
