FAX Site Certification Phase 1

The following is the list of items of FAX Site Certification Phase 1. All FAX sites are required to completed these steps by 2014-01-13.

X509

Instructions to enable X509 for FAX sites is embedded in the the TWiki page for site to joing their storage to FAX. In additon, there is also a dedicated page for sites to convert from old X509 method to the new (VOMS based) method.

Xrootd release 3.3.3 or above

Xrootd release 3.3.3 from xrootd.org contains a set of RPMs different from previous Xrootd releases. Though the configuration files (/etc/xrootd/xrootd-clustered.cfg and /etc/sysconfig/xrootd), init scripts (/etc/init.d/{xrootd,cmsd)) and operation directories (/var/{log,run,spool}/xrootd) remain unchanged.

Release 3.3.3 contain a number of new features developed for FAX. FAX sites are encouraged to upgrade to this release. After YUM update, running xrootd may crash, new xrootd instance may not start due to the above changes. If your site encount these problems, do the following:

• Save configuration files /etc/xrootd/xrootd-clustered.cfg and /etc/sysconfig/xrootd to somewhere else.
• stop xrootd and cmsd services
• remove all xrootd rpms.
• Install the following RPMs from xrootd.org repo. Also refer to the FAX rpm installation page

The following RPMs are needed:

xrootd
xrootd-libs
xrootd-devel
xrootd-client
xrootd-client-libs
xrootd-client-devel
xrootd-server-libs
xrotod-server-devel
json-c (from EPEL)
curl (from RHEL or SLC)
vomsxrd (available at /afs/cern.ch/work/g/ganis/public/vomsxrd/RPMS)
voms-2.0.6+ (availabe from OSG and EGI repos)

• restore the configuation files
• as root, run "service xrootd setup"
• start xrootd and cmsd services

Update Xrootd configuration files

To take advantage of the new features, please make to following changes:

• Add the following to /etc/xrootd/xrootd-clustered.cfg
  • Add "all.sitename SITENAME". SITENAME can be found under "ATLAS Name" column at https://atlas-agis.cern.ch/agis/atlassite/table_view/.
  • f-stream related configuration change: change whatever you currently have in your xrootd.monitor to: "xrootd.monitor all auth flush 30s window 5s rbuff 4k fstat 60 lfn ops xfr 5 dest redir files info user atl-prod05.slac.stanford.edu:9930"
• Add the following to /etc/sysconfig/xrootd (SL6 only)
  • export MALLOC_ARENA_MAX=4 (to control memory growth)

N2N that supports RUCIO

Recommend to all FAX sites

• C++ : A new N2N is available from the WLCG repo. It supports both (old) LFC gLFN and new RUCIO gLFN. Please refer to the FAX rpm installation page for detail.
• Java: Please refer to the this page for instruction
• DPM: DPM storage will also use the C++ N2N rpm. Please refer the instruction from the DPM team
