Normalised truncated mean values of the energy measured in cells crossed by a muon over the path length of the muon in the cells < dE/dx >, as a function of ΔΦ (azimuthal angle difference between the muon track impact point and the center of the cell). The truncated mean was obtained by truncating a fraction F=1% of entries in the upper side of the distributions. The pofiles were obtained
for the cells of the three radial layers of (a) long barrel (LB) and (b) extended barrel (EB) of the Tile Hadronic Calorimeter. The values of the cells of the positive (EBA) and negative (EBC) η sides of EB are combined. The values of the < dE/dx > were obtained from collision events with muons produced in W -> μν decays. The observed asymmetry in the response in the two extremities of the cells is attributed to a mis-alignment between the Tile Hadronic Calorimeter and the Inner tracker.

Correction factors for channels/photomultipliers (PMTs) organised in look-up tables. The
values are shown as a function of ΔΦ (azimuthal angle difference between the muon track impact point
and the center of the cell). The correction factor for each PMT in a cell was estimated as the ratio of
the < dE/dx > for single PMT from the data divided by < dE/dx > using total energy deposited in
a cell in simulation without U-shape. Muons from W -> μν decays were used in the data and single
projective muons distributed uniformly in ATLAS detector were used in simulation. Original profiles
from data were symmetrized before we make ratio data/MC. Results obtained for the layers A, BC and
D of Long Barrel (LB) are reported in the histograms (a), (b) and (c). The histograms (d), (e) and (f)
(histograms (g), (h) and (i)) show the look-up tables values of the layers A, B and D of the Extended Barrel EBA (EBC). The results correspond to the PMTs at negative value of the ΔΦ. The look-up tables of the positive side PMTs are obtained using the transformation ΔΦ->- ΔΦ. Look-up tables were
introduced in the ATLAS full simulation in order to reproduce the U-shape (response of the PMTs of the
Tile Hadronic Calorimeter as a function of the azimuth coordinates of the impact point of the tracks on
the cell, originating from the non-uniformity of light yield over the surface of the scintilating tiles).

the muon track impact point and the center of the cell). The truncated mean was obtained by truncating

obtained without (with) the introduction of the U-shape in the simulation of single muon MC events with
momentum 20 < p < 100 GeV/c in the ATLAS detector. The histograms (a), (b) and (c) (histograms
(d), (e) and (f)) refer to the layers A, BC and D of the LB (layers A, B and D of the EB’s) of the Tile
Hadronic Calorimeter.
