TilePublicPlotHowTo
Introduction
This page provides guidelines to help to get your proposed plot to be approved as Tile calorimeter public plot, and publish it on CDS and TWiki.
Find more information
here.
Getting your plot approved
Getting your proposed plot to be a Tile calorimeter public plot is an important step. It will allow you and your colleagues to use the plot in conference contributions and proceedings or in public notes and publications. This procedure takes sometime, as your plot will be discussed in the community, and you will have to integrate the suggestions and request. Count at least 2 weeks for the process to complete. If the results you want to get approved contain data from collision, it will need to be circulated in ATLAS, after the approval by the Tile calorimeter system. This happens on Thursdays.
If you have presented your work regularly in the community, then it will already be known and it will help for a smooth approval process.
Preparing your plots.
There is a mandatory ROOT style for ATLAS public plots, you can find it
Here. The Plots shall have the mention "ATLAS Internal" until they are approved. Make sure the axes are clearly labeled, that units are indicated, that contrasting colours have been used... Simply said it should be clearly understandable.
Uploading your draft plots to CDS.
Your proposed plots for approval shall be uploaded to CDS in the ATLAS communication catalogue (COM notes). You can find a direct link
HERE. Then select the keyword
Tile Calorimeter Detector Unit and click "Submit a Document". Do not submit it in another catalogue, we rely on being able to find all our plots in the specified catalogue.
The format should be a single PDF document containing
only the plots and their caption, one plot per page, its caption bellow. Please provide a link to supporting documentation if you have.
Once the plots are approved you will be able to upload a version of the plots mentioning "ATLAS Preliminary".
Request approval.
The procedure is outlined in this ATLAS document:
https://twiki.cern.ch/twiki/pub/AtlasProtected/AtlasPolicyDocuments/PlotApproval_May2014.pdf
You will have to present your work in one of the Tile calorimeter regular meetings (Data Preparation, on Mondays, or Operations/Maintenance on Thursdays). Ask the conveners to schedule a public plot presentation on the agenda.
Once you have a link to the approval meeting and the plots are uploaded into CDS, send a mail to
atlas-plot-notify@cernNOSPAMPLEASE.ch (without the "SPAMNOT") with the following information:
- The information that this is a "first round" circulation
- The web link (URL) of the CDS record
- The web link (URL) of the indico page of the approval meeting (which is the one after the circulation)
- A statement that the activity coordinator is the Tile Project Leader.
This email has to be sent before 1pm on Thursday so that it can be circulated at 2pm on the same day. Please make sure that you have the Tile Project Leader agreement before you do so.
Uploading your plots on the Tile TWIKI pages.
Once your plots are approved as public you should upload them to the TWIKI pages. This is were you can look for plots to use in your communication outside of the collaboration. If your plots contain collision data, and that they are approved after ATLAS circulation you should upload them to
TileCaloPublicResults. In the other case, when only approval by the Tile community was needed upload them to the appropriate place reachable from
ApprovedPlotsTile
.
You should provide a small thumbnail png image (preferably <10kB) of your plot to display on the Twiki, and a PDF or EPS (or both) high resolution version of the plot through a link below the thumbnail.
