QuantumBlackHole
Introduction
This page describes the exotics request for samples of quantum black holes generated with the generator QBH. Quantum black holes are expected in different models including models with extra dimensions, where the Planck scale is in the
TeV range. Typically, classic decay via Hawking radiation is assumed, resulting in a large number of particles. However, if the black hole mass is not much larger than the Planck mass, black holes could decay to only a small number of particles. QBH generates events with black holes that decay into two particle final states. Black holes are allowed to carry color and electric charge.
For further information regarding the underlying model and the event generator QBH, see
here
.
Important parameters
QBH offers a range of parameters. Most of them are left at their default value as described in the
QBH manual
. The most important parameters, including the ones that were changed for different samples, are shown here:
- initial state: initial state of incoming particles. 0: q-q, 1: q-g, 2: g-g, 3: all
- electric charge: Three times the electric charge of BH produced. (allowed values: -4, -3, -2, ..., 4)
- Planck mass: reduced Planck mass M_D
- min BH mass: Only black holes above this mass are allowed to be produced.
- ADD or RS: type of black hole produced (ADD or Randall-Sundrum)
- nDimensions: number of dimensions in ADD model
Sample request
Since changes in the Planck mass, the type of the black hole or the number of dimensions do not change the event characterisitics, only samples with different min BH mass and electric charges have been requested. The cross-sections are given only for one combination of possible parameters. Other cross-section need to be calculated directly from QBH.
For black holes with charge 4/3, only q-q is considered as initial state due to charge conservation. The initial states q-q and q-g could both create black holes of charge 1/3. However, from a theoretical point of view, there is no Lorentz invariant operator that can connect q+g->lepton+q (three fermions and a gauge boson). Since Lorentz invariance is required, only the initial state q-q is considered.
For each of the different black holes parameters, one sample for muon+jet and one sample for electron+jet decay channel has been requested.
MC10b
The request is for MC10b, so all validation plots were produced in release 15.6.14.6.
Default settings:
- Initial state: 0 = quark-quark
- reduced Planck mass: 1 TeV
- max BH mass: 7 TeV
- Trapped surface calculation: FALSE
- BH type: ADD
- nDimensions: 10

Comparison to MC10b
Release 17.2.0.4.1,TAGProd
For a minimum BH mass of 2
TeV, several plots have been produced for the muon+jet decay channel comparing various quantities in MC10b (center of mass energy of 7
TeV) and MC12a (8
TeV). The results can be found
as ps and
as pdf file. As can be seen, no significant differences are found between the two productions. Only energy dependant quantities increase slightly in value due to the increase in the center of mass energy.
Release 17.2.4.2,AtlasProduction
Using the same settings for PDF and center-of-mass energy (
CTEQ5M and 7
TeV), multiple distributions have been produced comparing the result of release 17.2.4.2,AtlasProduction to the results of MC10b. There are no signficant changes observed, as can be seen here:
ps format and
pdf format.
In addition, plots have been produced for mc12 using
CTEQ5M comparing 7
TeV to 8
TeV. Some differences are seen in the inv. mass and jet/muon pT distribution:
ps format and
pdf format.
Last, the changes going from the PDF set
CTEQ5M to
MSTW2008LO have been studied for 8
TeV. There are some minor differences, see here:
ps format and
pdf format.
To summarize: There are some differences between default MC10b and MC12. However, they can all be attributed to changes in the energy and the PDF set used.
