Cherenkov counters detect the light emitted by charged particles passing through a medium when the velocity of the particle is greater than the velocity of light in the is possible to fill the detector with a gas, possibly under pressure, so that the detector will respond only to particles with velocities exceeding some minimum value.

Secondary Beams for Tests in the PS East Experimental Area; Chapter 4.2.1

From the guide, Chapter 4.2.1, the geometry of the detector is given in drawing EP 82.550. The entry and exit windows are 0.6 mm Mylar and the PhotoMultiplierTube is model XP2020Q. This information was last updated in 1993, so it is uncertain if this is current.
