Minutes BWS Upgrade: Electro-Mechanical Design Meeting #6 -- 10th October 2015 --

1. BWS PSB Motor: News (D.Gudkov)

  • Showed new motor system assembly
    • Step chamber proposal: Adapt break to diameter of motor.
    • Discussion about the possibility of suppresion of one of the diameters of the stepped chamber (1 long section instead of 2 short with different diametres).
  • Changes introduced:
    • External focusing system with optical viewport
    • Flange changed from DN250 to DN273 (mm)
    • Feedthrough at the motor side introduced
  • Question from William:
    • Value of the absolute alignment accuracy of the tank?
      • Agreement on 300um (Bernd)
  • Remark from Jonathan:
    • Electrical characteristics of the new motors need to be verified (Kt & Ke value)

2. First SPS Measurements: Planning (J.Emery)

  • All the equipment in the tunnel is installed
  • Acquisition system under test
  • New wire scanner installation on first week of November, Week 45.

3. Optical Position Sensor: Test with the new disk samples (J.L. Sirvent)

  • New disk diameter 185 mm (Before it was 135 mm)
  • Materials: Titanium & Anticorodal
  • Materials reflectivities are similar to glass enconder systems.
  • Surface roughness must be improved to have suitable signals.
  • Extintion ratio is similar to the glass disks.
  • Disadvantadges of metal disk:
    • Larger inertia (is is under question. Inertia of steel disk 3e-4, aluminium disk 1e-4, glass disk 2e-4 x m2)
    • Probably higher manufacturing costs.
  • Advantadges of metal disk:
    • Higher temperature limit, baking.
    • Conductive
    • Less fragile

4. AOB (B.Dehning)

  • Presentation of sketch of the wire mounting on fork.
  • Kick Off considerations for the design of the mounting elements.

Come up with the range of angular movement for the break
