Minutes BWS Upgrade: Electro-Mechanical Design Meeting #17 -- 28th November 2016 --
Participants: R. Veness, F. Roncarolo, J. Emery, P. Andersson, D. Gudkov, W. Andreazza, J.L. Sirvent, C. Vulliez, A.Goldblatt
Agenda (https://indico.cern.ch/event/569142/
)
1. Potential issues for EYETS installation
1.1 Glass Encoder Disk: Situation and options (Dmitry & Jose)
- Delay on Encoder Disk due to bad adherence of chrome on glass (raw material send to provider)
- Disks need to be re-coated ( potential schedule risks if they have more problems...)
- Disk must be ready 5th Dec.
- Ideal needs for testing disks prior to installation:
- 1. Mount on holder and optical bench for a quick functional validation
- 2. Clean disks before mounting on PSB Prototype
- 3. Mount disk on prototype and single scanns for alignment and test.
- 4. Ideal would be to perform calibration with laser system (possible?).
- Same disk for all operations or parallel work? : Validation on bench and on PSB Proto must be same disk.
- Metallic disk situation:
- Sent without the diamond turning (in error). They will do this week.
- Probably we will not get engraved disks this year (1-2 weeks to get engraved in NL)
- If received W48 must be ready W50
1.2 Bearings (Dmitry)
- Current installed bearings have heduced clearance (very hard to move, friction) this one was accepted by Vacuum.
- Standard bearings (SPS type) are now at CERN, but need to be tested.
- Need 0.4-0.5 Nm to rotate curent bearings. Thinks it will be better but not necesarily zero.
- Agreed (William/Dmitry) to install on the ML instrument.
- Bearings performance compared by Jonathan on other test-bench
- Check precission on standard clearance bearings. (need calibration bench for this?)
- New bearings need to be cleaned and send for vacuum acceptance (William). Potential schedule risk.
1.3 Vacuum Acceptance (William)
- 2 measurements done of the whole instrument (Bad results)
- Opened and re-assembled
- VSC Think there is an issue of cleaning with is interfering with the measurement.
- Not 3rd cleaning and will re-measure
- Cleaning service changed products?
- Tank was fully accepted by VSC and can be installed
- Macor connector was accpeted in the SPS
- Ray will talk to Giuseppe/Jose?
- In theory, it will not stop installation.
- We may have to add a pump.
- Wire qualification:
- Request made by Jonathan
- William will help on follow-up.
1.4 Callibration (Jonathan/Federico/Aurelie/Jean)
- Infrastructure is ready (stages and scopes acquisitions)
- Control system is not ready for calibrations (Jonathan)
- Other possibility using other system ? (Federico)
- In theory yes, quick (but not optimal) solution with DSpace system displacement to 867, required modifications for triggering system. (Jonathan)
- 1 month of work required for needed modifications and controller paramaters extraction.
- We'll like to put the scanner on calibration bench prior to installation on PSB and perform a first calibration.
- A big amount of time required for such work. Potential blocking point.
1.5 Cable installation (Federico/Jonathan)
- Normally we should make some test scans as soon as we install. (Federico)
- Approval for cabling is agreed but date is not known . (William will check)
- Jonahtan has installed 3 racks, but they have not planed to install power and network on the racks.
- Done 2 weeks ago, some checks are still needed for the installations. Aurelie will help here .
-
1.6 Any others?
- No announcements done here.
- Latest date for installation in PSB will be ~10th Feb.
2. Initial budget estimates
- Federico will send Excelsheet with cost for acquisition and control electronics. (Jonathan's excelsheet)
3. Agreements
- Installation of tank and support (but not instrument) on the 15th December
- Installation of the instrument 10th February.
- Hope to be able to calibrate and operate in the tunnel.
- If we have a complete working instrument that has been tested on the bench then we will install it.
4. Detected installation blocking points:
- Test with new bearings
- Dmitry to send a mail when the scanner is assembled with new bearings.
- Jonathan to communicate wen it has been tested.
- William to update us on vacuum acceptance test of bearings.
- Glass encoder disc.
- Jose Send mail when disk arrives - Check if possible to collect it
- Jose will make normal acceptance test and let know the results.
- Also some testing will be done to test the disk mechanical resistance (some cycles)
- Vacuum acceptance:
- William will let know when the hole instrument is accepted for installation.
- Defined priorities for Jonathan are:
- test the bearings
- prepare d-space system
- racks and system (first check the installation dates). Aurelie has offered to help here.
