Kerberos

Getting a kerberos ticket for the FNAL.GOV realm is now possible in the NP04 cluster (done via an nginx revers proxy to Fermilab's KDCs).

  • For downloads use the web proxy.
  • For uploads you will need to use an intermediate location at CERN that has external access. Lxplus can be used.

Proxy

Web proxy for http and https is available through np04-webgw1, a virtual machine, hosted at CERN.

> source ~np04daq/bin/web_proxy.sh

[np04daq@np04-srv-011 ~/bin]$ cat web_proxy.sh
export http_proxy=http://np04-web-proxy.cern.ch:3128
export https_proxy=http://np04-web-proxy.cern.ch:3128

Note: old instructions had

export https_proxy=https://np04-web-proxy.cern.ch:3128

Our proxy isn't really a valid https proxy. Older versions of curl (in CentOS 7) ignored that second line and sent it over the "http" port anyway. In CentOS 8, curl now knows about real https proxies, which ours is not. So, you need to tell it to use the same "http" address on our proxy, or all your connection attemps will fail with ssl errors.

So, if you're setting up these variables on your own, here's what works. If you're in the np04daq account, you're using what works there with whatever's currently in that shell script.
