High Voltage Rack Trip
HV rack trips occur when the solenoid ramps or discharges. When these conditions cease to exist we must re-power the racks before the HV can be turned on. To do this, go to central DCS work area as shown in the image below.
In order to do anything here, the SLIMOS must have activated the console with her id card. If the Central DCS shift person is present you can request for the racks be turned on as follows:
- Check the DSS USC55 Alarm screen that the alarm condition ( AL_Magnet_Slow/Fast Discharge) is no longer present.
- In the upper left of DCS Screen 1 are tabs labeled S1, S2, S3,.... which are the names of the rack areas. You should click S2.
- A window will appear in the showing a view of the S2 area. The HCAL HV racks are in S2 C09-14. If off they will be red.
- Click the rack you wish to restore, and a window will open with a pull-down called "Send Command"
- Choose "ACKA" and click yes in the popup - wait for the highlighting to change from yellow to green
- Choose "REARM" and click yes in the popup - wait for the highlighting to change from yellow to green
- Choose "ON" and click yes in the popup - wait for the highlighting to change from yellow to green
- Repeat for all racks.
The first action to occur when the solenoid changes state is a DSS open contact which interlocks the HV crates. Until the trip module is reset, the HV will be interlocked off.
- First check that the crates are interlocked by clicking on any tripped HV "led" in the HCAL view panel. A new panel will appear showing channel and crate status. If interlocked, "KillReset" will be on. If not make a log book entry, and check several other crates to confirm. This means that HSS is malfunctioning.
- On the HCAL main panel click the "HCAL HSS" button. A panel will open. In the upper left corner there is a button called "Reset HV". Click It. Check that the "KillRest" bit goes off for a HV channel.
- Power up the HV.
Low Voltage Rack Trip
* LV rack trips happen when there is a smoke or high temperature detected by the Twido system. These racks have been de-powered by breakers. As such the breakers need to be reset by the Sylvester's services group ( phone? ).
First check the DSS UXC55 Alarm screen that the alarm condition ( smolke/temp) is no longer present.

Computer Reboot
When the monitoring computer ( pcephc221) in the underground control room reboots, one needs to reconnect with the DCS repository.
Because it is in a remote directory ( \dfs...), go to "Network Connections" and click on "dfs on cern.ch". Then login with "nice" credentials.
Then go to "My Computer" and click on System C, and also login. The computer now has access to "framework" components and can start the PVSS project.
