CASTOR User Area Migration

How do I know which Tier-2 I can use?

Please see this page.

How do I make sure my files are on disk?

To make sure your files are on disk on CASTOR use;

stager_get -S default -f <fileList>

where <fileList> is a file containing the list of files you want to copy with the full CASTOR path (eg /castor/ That tells CASTOR to bring them onto disk from tape. You can check that they are on disk with;

stager_qry -S default -f <fileList>

If the status is STAGEIN then the file has still be recalled from tape.

How do I copy my files to /store/user at CERN?

If you want to copy your own files you should first make sure they are online.

To actually copy the file you can use the temporary short LFN prefix /user/ to read from this area with the standard CMS tools at CERN;

cmsStage /user/g/gowdy/test.gz /store/user/gowdy/

How do I copy my files to my Tier-2?

If you want to copy your own files you should first make sure they are online.

You can then use;

lcg-cp -b -D srmv2 "srm://" <remote>

where <remote> is the remote location. It could be a local file (file:///`pwd`/test.gz) or another SRM endpoint.

How do I delete unneeded files?

You can remove then individually with;

nsrm /castor/

or if you are sure you have everything you need (and double check you have the right path) you can also use the recursive option and delete all files below the directory you specify;

nsrm -r /castor/

How do I know how much space I'm using

If you don't have too many files the following command should work. If you have a lot of files it may take some time.

nsfind . -ls | awk '{size+=$6}END{print size/1024/1024/1024/1024"TB"}'

You can replace the . with a directory name to get the size below another directory.
