CMS Poster Contest

The CMS Communication Group would like to invite all CMS Institutions to enter the CMS Poster Contest. All CB members are invited to communicate this message within their institutes.

The purpose for this competition is to design a new set of posters representing various aspects of the CMS experiment for the general public, e.g.: detector, physics, collaboration, technology, etc.

The winning set of posters should be available by the end of August and would be widely exposed at:

  • CERN Open Days (27-29 Sept 2013)
  • CMS visits' path at P5
  • Building 40 area
  • CMS Week in Taipei (9-13 Sept 2013)


  • A0 (or bigger) format
  • common look and feel for all set of posters
  • world-wide usage i.e. text in English (translation to other languages may of course be possible)


  • 28th June - Institutions interested in participating are kindly asked to fill in the poll at:
  • 31st July - Participating institutions should send the concept for the posters (sketch or drawing) to Full sketch (texts and images within the proposed design) is requested for a sample poster, while the rest could be an explanation of the "content" (ideas of images and texts to be used).
  • 15th August - The CMS Communications Group chooses THREE most interesting concepts and sends them to the CB mailing list for a vote
  • * 25th August* - The vote is closed and the winning set of posters is communicated to the CB
  • 26th August The CMS Communication Team contacts the winning institute and requests a final draft. Changes to the final draft (if needed) are made by the CMS Communications Team before printing.
  • 9th September - The winning set of posters are printed and exposed at the CMS week in Taipei.

Important details:

  • All the posters will be uploaded online, while the winning collection will become the flagship of CMS for the next two years, and will be printed and widely used for activities mentioned above.
  • The CMS Communication Team reserves rights to work on the interesting ideas for the posters that were not chosen for the final selection this time, but would be a good base for the future.
  • Not CMS members can take part in the contest but the final credit will be given to the institutes (no individual). Although the name of the person who designed the poster can be mentioned on the file itself.
