Search for the Higgs boson in the H → ZZ → 2l2ν channel in 4.6 fb−1

Abstract
A search for the standard model Higgs boson in the
H -> ZZ -> 2l2nu decay channel, where l = e or mu,
in pp collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 7 TeV is presented.
The data were collected at the LHC, with the CMS detector,
and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 4.6 fb-1.
No significant excess is observed above the background expectation,
and upper limits are set on the Higgs boson production cross section.
The presence of the standard model Higgs boson with a mass in the 270--440 GeV range is excluded at 95 % confidence level.

The ET_miss distribution in data compared to the background simulation. The dielectron
and dimuon channels are combined. Contributions from ZZ, WZ, non-resonant background
and Z+jets background are stacked on top of each other. The ET_miss
for mH = 300 GeV is also shown.

Background estimates,
signal predictions, and observed number of events for an integrated luminosity of
4.6 fb-1 after the cut-based selection. The uncertainties
include the statistical and systematic components (in that order).
The results for signal contain only the systematic uncertainties as the statistical uncertainties are negligible.
For the non-resonant background, the 68% upper limit is quoted in the case where the background prediction is zero.
