Physics for PhaseII Level-1 Trigger

Introduction

The goal of this page is to collect the information that categorizes future physics analysis to the selecting trigger of the Step-1 Phase-2 L1T Menu, which is supposed to cover the big part of the physics we are doing with CMS in Phase-1. The idea behind is to identify physics processes that illustrate well the benefit of managing to keep trigger thresholds at the level of the Phase-1 men. The information is derived from the Future Analysis survey reported on https://twiki.cern.ch/twiki/bin/view/CMSPublic/SWGuideL1TPhase2Menu .

The material from this page can then be used to go to section 1.3 of the L1T TDR. The physics information organized according to trigger types present in the Phase-2 Menu.

Single Lepton Triggers

Under leptons here we include PhaseII object:

Physics processes selected by these triggers:
  • ttbar (FTR-18-015)
  • W
  • H->ττ, where on tau decays to a muon, and other tau hadronically
  • gluon-mediated FCNC in top quark production (FTR-18-004)

Plot showing acceptance:

  • 1D Integral of signal acceptance as a function of lepton object pt cut. Show the acceptance for PhaseI SA muon at threshold for same rate as PhaseII TkMu or TkMuStub)

Double Lepton Triggers

Under leptons here we include:

Physics processes selected by these triggers:
  • H->&ZZ (FTR-18-011)
  • H->&WW (FTR-18-011)
  • VBS (FTR-18-005)
Plot showing acceptance:
  • 2D Integral of signal acceptance as a function of leading vs trailing lepton pt cut

Single Photon Triggers

Under photons here we consider

Physics processes selected by these triggers:
  • NA
Plot showing acceptance:
  • NA

Dobule Photon Triggers

Under photons here we consider

Physics processes selected by these triggers:
  • H->γγ, (FTR-18-011)
Plot showing acceptance:
  • 1D Integral of signal acceptance as a function of di-photon pt cut. Show the acceptance for PhaseI SA Eγ object.

Hadronic Triggers

Under hadronic triggers here we consider

  • hadronic tau
  • jets
  • HT/MHT

Physics processes selected by these triggers:

  • SUSY with direct stau (FTR-18-010)
  • H->ττ, where on tau decays hadronically
  • HH->ττbb, tau decays hadronically
  • HH->bbbb

Plot showing acceptance:

  • 1D Integral of signal acceptance as a function of di-tau pt cut. Show the acceptance for PhaseI SA Eγ object.
  • 2D Integral of signal acceptance as a function of double(quadruple) leadring and trailing jet pt cut. Show the acceptance for PhaseI SA Eγ object.

Missing Energy Triggers

Under these triggers we consider

  • PF MET

Physics process:

  • ZH ->ννbb

Plot showing acceptance:

  • TBD

B Triggers

Here we consider low-pt muon triggers

Physics process
  • B_s ->μμ
Plot showing acceptance
  • 2D Integral of signal acceptance as a function of leading and trailing muon pt. Show acceptance using threshold of Phase1 object with same rate.

VBF Triggers

Here we consider the following triggers

  • Di-jet trigger with invariant mass
  • Neural Network VBF

Physics process

  • VBF H->& invisible
  • VBF H->& bb

Plot showing acceptance

  • 1D Integral of signal acceptance as function of dijet cut. Show acceptance using threshold of Phase1 object with same rate.

Lepton Cross Object Triggers

Here we consider the following triggers

  • muon + electron
  • double muon + tau
  • double tau + mu

Physics process

  • MSSM H->tautau (FTR-18-017)
  • Higgs Exotic Decays at the HL-LHC: h->aa->bbττ, 2μ2τ (FTR-18-035)

Plot showing acceptance

  • TBD
