Fast Simulation Tag History

Please use one of the following global supported tags, with the corresponding CMSSW version, to do your analysis. The latest global tag is always the recommended tag to be used. It is likely to contain bug fixes with respect to previous tags, but likely to contain new bugs as FastSimulation is developing fast. Deprecated tags must not be used (either because the corresponding CMSSW release simply does no longer exist, or because support can no longer be given).

CMSSW_6_1_0 21-Dec-2012 Full integration with the FullSim digitizers (aka FullDigi) in ECAL and HCAL. Timing added to calo hits. Negative energies (mostly) removed. Removal of track duplicates. Job splitting between pure-sim and pure-reco in cmsDriver. FullDigi for ECAL became default in pre6. Release series for SLHC developments
CMSSW_6_0_0 29-Aug-2012 Full integration with the Mixing Module. Generalize the particle decays code in order to prepare the move to Pythia8 for decays in the detector (default stays Pythia). Generalization of HCAL parameters (towards calorimeter upgrades). Towards integration with the FullSim digitizers in ECAL and HCAL. Release series for SLHC developments
CMSSW_5_3_6 5-Nov-2012 This series was branched from 6_0_X (5_3_0 = 6_0_0_pre4). Moved to 8 TeV. Activated "PF patch" by default. Option to use the MixingModule for pileup simulation. Remove the need for a customized RandomServiceInitialization. Retuning of ECAL noise. New beamspot. New 7e33 HLT menu. Backport of the track duplicate removal from 61x. CMSSW_5_3_6 and following are recommended for comparison with data and FullSim in 5_3_X.
CMSSW_5_2_6 17-Jun-2012 New templates in SiPixels as in standard reco. Updated tracking seeds to gsfElectrons, following standard reco. Propagation through HO (but no signal response in HO yet). Several ECAL parameters made configurable (needed by Upgrade studies). Accommodate with PF changes. Retuning of HCAL noise and thresholds. Retuning of HF response. Moved to 8 TeV. Backports from 53X and 60X: Activated "PF patch" by default.. Retuning of ECAL noise. New beamspot. CMSSW_5_2_6 and following are recommended for comparison with data and FullSim in 5_2_X.

CMSSW_5_0_0 16-Dec-2011 Tracking tracks use a similar Iterative Tracking as in main reco (still no pattern recognition, though). Allow killing dead channels in SiPixels. (Not for production)

CMSSW_4_2_9_HLT3 03-Oct-2011 Set as default the extraction of fastsim HLT configuration using hltGetConfiguration. 5E32 HLT menu. Added the feature of dicing the number of pile-up events from a user-defined distribution (as in the MixingModule for full sim). Move to the Realistic7TeV2011 vertex smearing in generation. HE/HF response update to cope with FullSim changes in 42x. Move all ParticleFlow related configurations and sequences from Famos_Sequences_cff.py to FastSimulation/ParticleFlow. Allow the production of fake extra PF neutral hadrons associated to charged PF ones, to recover similar performance on PF Jets and MET as in the Full Simulation (default remains for the moment the non-production of those extra neutrals). Implement the possibility of muon bremsstrahlung, for the moment only in the Tracker (default remains the non-inclusion of muon brems, but it can be switched on). Fix of HO deposits. Added PileupSummaryInformation, as in Full Simulation, in order to use the same reweighting tools. Remove paramenterized muon packages and references to them. Recovered most of the HLT paths. Backport from 44X the tuned Sigma(ieta,ieta) and B-field treatment in the ECAL endcaps. CMSSW_4_2_5 and following ones can be used for production, previous 4_2_X releases are deprecated. Recommended: 4_2_8_patch4 (for the 5e32 HLT menu), 4_2_9_HLT1 (for the 3e33 one), 4_2_9_HLT3_hltpatch2 (for the 5e33 one)
CMSSW_4_1_7 21-Jun-2011 As the corresponding 3_11_X, but rebuilt with ROOT 5.27/06b and with slc5_amd64_gcc434. CMSSW_3_11_3 11-Mar-2011 Rearrange the way Geometry and PileUp are dealt with by cmsDriver and by the FastSim specific test configurations. CMSSW_3_8_7_patch2 17-Dec-2010 Separate validation and pre-validation sequences for FastSim. Fixes in MuonSimHitProducer (hit multiplicity in ME11). Allow cascade algorithm in the muon HLT. Fix in the FamosSequences that allows including the previously missing RecoJetsGlobal. Important bug fix in ShowerDevelopment: put a protection that avoids too large energy enhancements (and therefore nonphysically large MET tails). Important bug fix in FastSimulation/Event that avoids double counting of electrons that radiates at vertex ("prompt bremsstrahlung") in the generator produced particle list. Updated Calo response in HF (and noise level since 3_8_7). Add vertexId to the FSimVertex (since 387). CMSSW_3_8_6 and following releases can be used for MC production, previous releases are deprecated
