RECO and AOD Data Formats

Complete: 3

Purpose

Define the output objects of CMS reconstruction with a uniform look and feel in the interface. From each detector and analysis PRS contact persons have been requested to set the specific requirements.

Event Content Definition

Event Content Details

The up-to-date content of RECO and AOD is documented on the following pages, where each sub-system is responsible to keep information updated:

Event Content Configuration

The content of RECO and AOD Event content is defined in the package:

The package provides the following file:

This file defines Parameter blocks to be used in the PoolOutputModule configuration. The defined blocks are:

  • FEVTEventContent: full reconstruction event output
  • RECOEventContent: reconstruction event output
  • AODEventContent: analysis object data
  • FEVTSIMEventContent: full reconstruction and simulation event output
  • RECOSIMEventContent: reconstruction and simulation event output
  • AODSIMEventContent: analysis object data including generator output

For instance, to write the AOD component of the Events you can use:

  include "Configuration/EventContent/data/EventContent.cff"

  module AOD = PoolOutputModule {
    untracked string fileName = "aod.root"
    using AODSIMEventContent
  }

Multiple output modules can be instantiated with different configuration. This allows to write, within the same job, multiple output files in different formats. For instance, RECO and AOD at the same time.

Event Size Estimates

Systematic event size measurements will become a task of the Perfromance Task Force.

The tool edmEventSize can be used to produce detailed reports.

For past releases the following reports have been published:

Extract RECO and AOD from Full Event Samples

  1. Check out the following package:
    • Configuration/EventContent
  2. Go to the directory test, and edit the script makeRECOSIM.cfg or makeAODSIM.cfg, specifying:
    • the name of the input data files (one or more) you want to skim with the parameter fileNames in the PoolSource module
    • the name of the output RECOSIM/AODSIM file you want to produce with the parameter fileName of the module PoolOutputModule
  3. Run the skimming with:
   > cmsRun makeRECOSIM.cfg
or:
   > cmsRun makeAODSIM.cfg
