Same sign dimuon trigger performance plots ( CMS DP-2020/029)

The same-sign di-muon HLT was developed for the search of H(125)→aa in 2HD+1S models at low ma (ma ≤ 15 GeV) with signatures of non-isolated leptons (decay products of light ‘a’ boson overlap).

This HLT path was deployed during 2016 era of data taking. Using the data collected during this period, the analysis H(125)→2a→(τμτ)(τμτ) search in 13 TeV pp collisions with the CMS detector was published (PLB 800 (2020) 135087).

The same-sign requirement on the di-muon trigger significantly reduces the contribution coming from QCD multijet processes and nearly eliminates all of electroweak and top pair backgrounds.

The triggering strategy for the 13 TeV collision data analysis was to keep the non-isolated di-muon path with low thresholds and implement the same-sign requirement online in order to keep an unprescaled trigger for the analysis.
