User Tools Development


Mandate

User Tools Development is part of the Physics Tools and Support area. Mandate is specified in this document:

  • User Tool Development coordinates the development of statistical tools, user-facing code to analyze AOD and MINIAOD (FWLite is under core software)
  • This group works with the analysis groups to maintain the analysis software in CMSSW releases.
  • This group will coordinate the development of data publication and data transfer tools for users.

Core integration and performance monitoring Pledge Overview

  • Heppy: TWIKI
    • CMS specific heppy developments are done in PhysicsTools/Heppy
    • Core heppy developments ( PhysicsTools/HeppyCore) are mostly done outside CMSSW, in the standalone heppy package. Lots of new developments to be merged into CMSSW after the summer.
    • Please use github if you want more information on our activity, as there are no specific talks.

Visualization Pledge Overview

  • Fireworks core development: Frieworks WoorkBook
    • Introduced global color palettes
    • New version of ECAL detail view
    • GEM and M0 segment and rechit visualization (included in CMSSW_8_1_x)
    • Improvements in 3D detail view
    • Reviewed and improved default table contents
    • Updated default reco geometry
    • Added possibility to render only filtered items in the summary view
    • OSX, and Linux tarball releases based on 76x and 80x CMSSW releases
    • Developer & User support.

  • Online event display @ P5
    • Provided 24/7 support during the 2016 run (on-call DOCs)
    • Provided images for PR during special events (Quiet Beam in April, Stable Beam in May)
    • Enabled VIP mode during several official visits
    • Maintained event display configurations with changes of conditions (cosmics/commissioning/etc)
    • Updated EventDisplay data stream trigger menu for high luminosity
