7.1 Introduction to Higher-Level Object Analysis Tutorials

Complete: 3
Detailed Review status

This chapter describes the details of the objects associated with physics analyses such as electrons, photons, muons, missing transverse energy and jets; heavy-quarks, taus. These objects are available in the standard AOD data samples. They are produced using a wide variety of sophisticated reconstruction algorithms which are described in detail in the Offline Guide.

  • Entire Reconstruction Chain - shows briefly how the standard data samples are reconstructed. These instructions can be used to generate, simulate and reconstruct a data sample for a specific physics process, if an official, centrally produced sample is not available.

  • Track Reconstrcuction and Analysis - shows the available methods for accessing and analyzing the reconstructed tracks, and discusses more advanced operations involving tracks (refitting, accessing track trajectory at different points, etc.).

  • Vertex Reconstruction - decribes
    • how to access and analyze the primary vertices,
    • how to find and fit vertices by a user in his analysis code.

  • Electron Analysis - shows some simple code for basic analysis of electrons, and contains links for further electron analysis and reco instructions.

  • Photon Analysis - shows some simple code for basic analysis of photons, and contains links for further photon analysis and reco instructions.

  • Jet Reconstruction is a more complex process and documentation is provided for both Jet object reconstruction and determination of missing energy determination.

  • Global Muon Reconstruction is a process by which muon tracks are reconstructed using information coming from both the muon spectrometer and the tracker detector.
