Host Details of the CERN IT CVMFS Service

If nodes are in a CDB cluster then they are fully quattered and maintained by the IT department.

Cluster lxcvmfs
These are typically hosts with name lxcvmfsXX. They are nodes where maintainers of software in cvmfs login to install their releases and publish these releases. There is exactly one node in each subcluster, e.g atlas, cms which corresponds to each of the cvmfs repositories. LEMON:lxcvmfs.
Cluster stratum
This cluster contains 3 subclusters: LEMON:stratum
The one backend node is the backend of the stratum one service that pulls from the stratum 0 service.
These are multiple reverse squid proxies that serve data as the public endpoint. They pull files on demand from the backed of stratum one service.
These are the simple stratum 0 webservers that serve data from the netapp. Only the three stratum ones connect to this service.
Cluster proxy
These are not detailed below, the proxy nodes are the normal forward proxies that are used by CERN batch workers, as such they are not part of the central service. LEMON:proxy.

CDB Cluster CDB Sub Cluster Node IPAddress NetApp Access Purpose Criticality Notes
lxcvmfs lhcb lxcvmfs05 ( CVMFS-LHCB) Requires rw to the lhcb area LHCb software installer node Must be running for LHCb to install software
lxcvmfs cms lxcvmfs04 ( CVMFS-CMS) Requires rw to the cms area at least CMS software install box Must be running for cms to install software. This is not yet the live cms install box. The real one is in PH still.
lxcvmfs atlas-conddb lxcvmfs02 ( CVMFS-ATLAS-CONDB) Requires rw to the atlas-condb area at least. Atlas-Condb software install box Must be running for atlas-condb to install software. This is not yet the live atlas-condb install box. The real one is in PH still.
lxcvmfs atlas lxcvmfs01 ( CVMFS-ATLAS) Requires rw to the atlas area at least. Atlas software install box Must be running for atlas to install software. This is not yet the live atlas install box. The real one is in PH still.
stratum zero lxzero02 and 03 and Requires read access to all of the data Statum0 webservers While one node is up the stratum 0 webserver is available. The stratum ones at CERN , BNL and RAL will all pull from this. Currently they pull from cernvm-bkp.
stratum backend lcgcvmfs04 Irrelevant None cvms-stratum-zero backend Node is disposable but will bring down CERN stratum one while it is down. This node currently pulls all data from cernvm-bkm and writes a full copy to local disk, it will need an upgrade soonish to a bigger disk. The pull is done via a CDB configured cron job called replica-repo. The data is then served out via an apache webserver.
stratum frontend lcgcvmfs02 and 03 Irrelevant None cvms-stratum-zero frontend Two nodes , if one is up cvmfs-stratum-zero is up. This is a reverse squid proxy. It serves data to approximately 1/3 of WLCG cvmfs clients. It fetches on demand files from the stratum zero backend.
