Deployment Plan

This section describes the milestones planned for the production infrastructure during the project lifetime.

Overview
Three major milestones are defined for the production infrastructure: MSA1.1, MSA1.2, and MSA1.3. Following the strategy of adding new sites/resources progressively, only a subset of the partners involved in the SA1 activity will contribute to MSA1.1 and only one VRE (ImpECt) will be supported. From MSA1.2 on, all SA1 partners are expected to contribute to the infrastructure that should then support 3 VREs: ImpECt, FCPPS, and GW4AS. MSA1.3 also foresees the possibility of other external sites, representing other user communities, to join the D4Science production infrastructure.

Each site is expected to contribute with gLite, gCube and Community nodes according to the table below.

Compared with other partners involved on JRA activities, the user community partners represented in SA1 (ESA, FAO, WordFish) have less experience in the deployment of gCube nodes. Therefore the above plan, in particular the availability of gCube nodes by ESA on M6, will have to be re-discussed following the progresses of the project. In addition, specific training sessions on gCube deployment are planned to quickly overcome this lack of experience.


MSA1.1
Milestone MSA1.1 corresponds to the availability of the ImpECt VRE to the Environmental Monitoring user community. This milestone is planned to be achieved on Month 6 (June 2008).


Resources Allocated

The following hardware resources are allocated to the production infrastructure until M6.

These numbers represent the minimum number of physical resources allocated to the infrastructure. More servers may be added. Furthermore, more CPUs may be available by relying on virtualization techniques.


Nodes Distribution

The following table reports the gLite and gCube types of components that each site is expected to provide. This table details the information already provided above focusing on the expected contribution by component of each partner on M6. Each site is expected to provide several gCube Hosting Nodes (gHNs) where gCube VRE services will then be remotely deployed. The only exception are gCube Collective Layer services that must be manually deployed.

The allocation of the gLite VOMS and gCube CR services will be done after discussion with ENG.

Plans for community nodes are not presented since they are specific to the community. For the milestone of M6 only ESA is expected to provide community nodes.


Time Plan

To achieve the milestone of M6 the following deadlines are established:

  • 18 Feb: start registration of gLite nodes in EGEE production infrastructure
  • 03 Mar: start installation and certification of gLite nodes
  • 07 Apr: start installation of gCube Hosting Nodes
  • 05 May: start deployment of gCube services
