Resources and Time Planning

This section describes the hardware resources and the milestones planned for the production infrastructure. A detailed plan of the first milestone of the infrastructure is also provided.

Overall
Three major milestones are defined for the production infrastructure: MSA1.1, MSA1.2, and MSA1.3. Following the strategy of adding new sites/resources progressively, only a subset of the partners involve in the SA1 activity will contribute to MSA1.1 and only one VRE (ImpECt) will be supported. From MSA1.2 on, all SA1 partners are expected to contribute to the infrastructure that should then support 3 VREs: ImpECt, FCPPS, and GW4AS. Each site is expected to contribute gLite, gCube and Community nodes according to the following table.

MSA1.1
Milestone MSA1.1 corresponds to the availability of the ImpECt VRE to the EM user community. This milestone is planned to be achieved on Month 6 (June 2008).

Resources

The following hardware resources are allocated to the production infrastructure until M6.

Partner Machines CPU Disk (GB)
CNR 5 10 300
UNIBASEL 6 8 2000
NKUA 9 18 500
ESA 9 18 10000
Total 29 54 12800

These numbers represent the minimum number of physical resources available to the production infrastructure. More servers may be added. Furthermore, more CPUs may be available by relying on virtualization techniques.

Time Plan

The following table reports the gLite and gCube components that each site is expected to provide. From the SA1 point of view, the gCube nodes consist only of gCube Hosting Node (gHN) and the gCube core services (the base services needed to deploy other services). It's SA2 responsibility the deployment of the different gCube services. Plans for community nodes are not presented since they are specific to the community.

Partner gLite gCube
CNR SE, CE, WMS gHN, gCubeIS, gCubeVREManager, gCubePR, gCubeGAS
UNIBASEL SE, CE gHN
NKUA SE, CE, WMS gHN
ESA SE, CE, LFC gHN

The allocation of the gLite VOMS and gCube CR services will be done after discussion with ENG.

The follow deadlines were established:

  • 18 Feb: start registration of gLite nodes in EGEE production infrastructure
  • 03 Mar: start installation and certification of gLite nodes
  • 07 Apr: start installation of gCube Hosting Nodes (to be confirmed)
  • 05 May: start deployment of gCube services (to be confirmed)
