Manifesto for iSCSI block device access

IT-DB provides iSCSI block access reusing its actual infrastructure optimized for database access via NFS. The service is intended to provide luns to Openstack VM's via the CINDER NetApp driver.

The CINDER NetApp driver is not supported by Netapp (see Netapp case 2005558040). it's supported by Netapp communities, open community support. IT-DB does not provide support for the CINDER driver.

Management of luns and its hierarchy (parent, snapshots, clones) is also managed by CINDER components. Management of luns is totally under responsability of application layer managers (hereafter Openstack manager or clients of Openstack). Any functionality derived from those luns is also under responsibility of the application layer managers.

IT-DB maintains the iSCSI infrastructure, it provides a HA solution for LUNS (requires multipathing and ALUA on the client side), doing any planned intervention that could put the iSCSI service at risk in coordination with Openstack managers.

Administrative access to the storage cluster is provided with the less privilege policy, and configuration is done to keep iSCSI isolated of prime services on clustered storage where it runs. This principle can not be tampered.
