Tape dev project meeting, 3/12/09
Planning for xmas et al absences:
- Steve – from Monday 7/12/09 on, back on 4/1/10
- Giulia – from 4/1/10 to 25/1/10 (14-15/1/10 at CERN)
- Nicola - 16-17/12/09 to 4-5/1/10
- German – (maybe) 17-18/12/09
Gateway + aggregatord testing status and outstanding issues:
- Gateway: Oracle “No data found” for multiple tape copies: Work in progress; see details here: link
- Gateway: speed of spawning new worker threads (Giuseppe’s dynamic thread monitoring?): While investigating this is interesting, it is not our main priority right now. We may come back to it in January. For the time being, we will configure MAX and MINTHREADS to 60. This should persistently go into the ITDC configuration - Giulia will talk to Dennis for getting it configured via Quattor/CDB.
- Gateway: requests looping every 10s when pool full (“no space left on device”) – is this desired by TapeOps? Giulia will check with Tim/Vlado.
- Upgrade to gateway instructions: https://twiki.cern.ch/twiki/bin/view/FIOgroup/TapeGateway#Upgrade – are these OK? Giulia will review them as the procedure has been simplified.
Packaging and init.d scripts status:
- For the aggregator, there is already a RPM package available. For the tape gateway, Giulia has produced packaging scripts but still needs to integrate them into SVN. She will check with Dennis.
Further tests:
- Redo load tests for migrations, recalls and mixed migrations/recalls using the new (non-blocking) aggregator: Will depend on when the non-blocking aggregator becomes available. The focus for testing before Xmas will otherwise be in repeating the functional (and stress) tests for the tape gateway.
- Redo basic functional tests (cf. https://twiki.cern.ch/twiki/bin/view/DataManagement/TapeSubsystemTesting)
