Access to Seed Resources
The EGEE-III project has a
limited pool of start-up resources that provide the full set of services required to run on the EGEE grid for new Virtual Organizations (VOs) or new users. These resources will be made available to new VOs (or users) that want to use the grid, but do not yet have resources to get started, without any cost.
VO Managers have to keep in mind that seed resources, as the name implies, will be available only for a specific duration of time after which the VOs (or users) should ensure provision of their own resources. This policy describes the requirements and the process that will be followed for new VOs or users that will want to make use of the EGEE-III pool of seed resources.
Access request
To gain access to seed resources, the new users or the VO managers of a new VO must send a message to the VO Support team leader (frederic.schaer {at} cea.fr). For new VOs, this message should be sent soon after the
registration of the VO. Users should send the request as soon as a clear plan for porting an application is available.
- A short text stating in which way access to the seed resources will assist them to get started.
- An estimation of the resources the VO plans to introduce into the grid.
- A thorough description of the work that will be done using these resources.
- The hardware and software requirements.
- The set of core services that are required.
- Expected time the seed resources will be needed.
The
Grid Application User Support Centre (GASuC)
can provide help in clarifying how an application can be ported to the grid and what services would be required.
Duration of access to the seed resources
The VO Support team leader will evaluate requests in consultation with the NA4 Steering Committee. Approved requests will allow access to the seed resources for a maximum period of 6 months. After that period, the VO is expected to have transitioned all of its operations on its own set of resources and thus the access to seed resources will be closed in collaboration with the VO and the different EGEE bodies.
If a request is refused, the VO Support team leader will explain to the requestor the reasons for the refusal.
