A possible way to monitor the grid network is to use grid jobs. A system called NetJobs
has been developped to demonstrate this. This page summarizes this work.
Anyone can access the system because it currently only displays network metrics, and no sensitive data:

Security notice
If you are monitoring the grid in your site, you may notice the jobs that the system sends:
- DN is /O=GRID-FR/C=FR/O=CNRS/OU=UREC/CN=Etienne Duble
- VO is dteam
Preliminary work
As a priliminary work concerning this idea of sending grid jobs, we have tried to get a map of the EGEE grid at level 3, by sending traceroute commands between sites.
These first results were compiled in
this map.

Events
The EGEE SA2 team has organized several events in order to present this innovative solution of grid network monitoring using grid jobs, and could gather valuable feedback during these events.
- December 10, 2009 in Bologna, Italy: LHCOPN Meeting
- February 24, 2010 (video conference): 4th Technical Network Liaison Committee of EGEE-III
