IT:

SEE:

  • SL4 32 bit support for other services.

SWE:

  • SL4 WN/UI 32/64 bit
  • SL4 other services 32bit
  • (LIP) the UI should be in as many possible platforms as possible:
    • RHEL4 and compatible distros (SLC4, CentOS4 I think) 32 and after 64
    • Other RHEL 5 (6?) and the like as Fedora core 6, Debian and Suse latest distros
    • MAC OS X (bsd like distros)

UKI:

  • UK
    • No exotic h/w RHEL compatible OS are ok.
    • SL4 32&64 bit support for WNs.
    • SL4 32 bit support for other services.
  • Ireland
    • 'CentOS' 4.4 32&64 bit for WNs
    • Suse 9.3 32&64 bit for WNs.
    • Fedora latest distro (2 sites)
    • AIX (5 sites)
    • 'MacOS' (Tiger) (2 sites)
    • Solaris (2 sites)

Storage support for Thumpers/Solaris:

  • SARA && PIC && LIP: Thumpes with dcaches (java - solaris)
  • A comment about thumpers and solaris by FZK: FZK plans to run Solaris/ZFS, next to its installed base of SL, on Intel386 64bit machines for DPM purposes in the future. This is already possible with the dCache software. Investigations are being done to move databases (Oracle/MySQL) to the Solaris platform in the long term. Dependencies on Linux (SL) of middleware components will then become an issue.

  • Comments from hepix: it seems that they are becoming very popular sites might want to try them out and official support might be necessary.

VM:

  • VMs are in general considered a complication to be used only if there are really no alternative for new hardware. If used to solve the problem of lack of security patches it wouldn't work. Anyway this last problem seems to be solved with the extension of security support from SL and SLC. Sites does not have manpower to manage VM.

64bit

  • 64bit support is becoming a real necessity for new hardware for the SEs
