UK Regional Grid Initiatives

The UK has a number of regional grid initiatives, detailed below, which inter-operate. In addition there is a National Grid Service that works with EGEE and all the regional grid initiatives to provide support to new and existing grid users in the UK.

The National Grid Service (NGS)

The National Grid Service (NGS) aims to provide coherent electronic access for UK researchers to all computational and data based resources and facilities required to carry out their research, independent of resource or researcher location.

ScotGrid

Covering Scotland, and including Durham University.

NorthGrid

Covering the North of England and incorporates hardware at Universities in Lancaster, Manchester, Liverpool and Sheffield

SouthGrid

Covering Wales and the South of England, but excluding London. Incorporates hardware and expertise from the Universities of Oxford, Cambridge, Warwick, Swansea, Birmingham, Bristol, Sussex, and Rutherford Appleton Laboratory.

LondonGrid

Covering Greater London, including Queen Mary University London, University College London, Brunel, Imperial College and Royal Holloway University London
