YAIM (YAIM Ain't an Installation Manager) is, as the name suggests, a way of configuring Grid Services. The aim of YAIM is to provide a simple installation and configuration method that can be used to set up a simple Grid Site but can be easily adapted and extended to meet the need of larger sites.
YAIM is developed within the EGEE
project, at the SA3
activity. The main goal of the SA3 configuration task is to maintain and evolve the configuration of the gLite middleware.
The Jargon File defines "yak shaving" as "Any seemingly pointless activity which is actually necessary to solve a problem which solves a problem which, several levels of recursion later, solves the real problem you're working on." I think this describes the process of installing and configuring grid systems quite well! YAIM aims to take the pain out of grid system administration. So, a yak is a good logo for YAIM as we no longer have to spend so much time shaving the yak! " - David O'Callaghan - the designer of the logo - said.
Many people have contributed in YAIM. Check the list of Authors to know more.
There are currently:
- 35 YAIM modules
- 16 YAIM developers
- 35398 lines of code between yaim functions and yaim utilities
- 356 variables to configure all the middleware
