1 Chart Generation Framework

1.1 Overview

The Chart Generation Framework is used by SA2.4 and SA2.3 to generate charts to be included in various metrics reports. The tool fetches data from EMI RfC trackers, ETICS infrastructure and EMI verification dashboard. It is written in Java, using JFreeChart and JAXB libraries, and it is heavily based on the EMI report generator.

The main motivations to create it instead of continuing using the report generator, were the following:

  • Need to have a tool more flexible, which adapts easilly to the fast changing requirements
  • Improve execution speed (the new tool queries data on demand and caches it)
  • Possibility to import the charts to any document or webpage by export images instead of pdf's.

The first point is the most important. The reason why it is a framework is because the tool itself just fetches and processes the data, provides utilities and makes possible export data as chart images (jpg files). The users can extend the program by adding appropriate classes which extends interfaces to create any dataset or plots which they need.

1.2 Data collected

As mentioned above, data is fetched from RfC trackers, ETICS webservice and the verification dashboard. Http queries are done and data is returned in XML format.

The URLs used and the corresponding XML schema of the data returned is listed next:
