EMI Data Storage Accounting Meeting, Sept. 30, 2010, 10:00-11:30

Participants: Paul, Zsolt, Riccardo Z, Jon

Excused: Ralph

Minutes

  • Actions from last week
    • Collecting requirements:
      • Paul: Contacted ATLAS (Graeme Stewart), dCache community
        • Got feedback from ATLAS, German Tier-1, SARA?, will put it on the wiki soon
      • Riccardo: Contacts INFN SP
        • No response from INFN referee yet, but got some input on main requirements - there is a need for tool to determine if file is never accessed, e.g., to assess need for new storage resources
        • Paul mentioned similar case in Karlsruhe where similar check was used to free up lots of ATLAS data. So this is a real-life requirement
        • Riccardo will put feedback on the wiki as soon as it comes
      • Ralph: Contacted DEISA, started to check out Amazon S3, has put initial feedback on wiki
      • Zsolt: Contacted Jean-Phillippe Baud and CMS
        • Got feedback from Jean-Phillippe, IO level accounting interesting, wants reports on file deletion and file access - suggested another contact Christine Leroy
        • Got contact with CMS - there is a CMS week this week, but they would try to give feedback in the beginning of next week
        • Zsolt will update feedback on wiki
      • Jon: Contacted OSG (Ted Hesselroth, also ask if they have some storage accounting already implemented), EMI security (John White), David Kelsey (policies in EGI)
        • First OSG feedback on wiki, more to come
        • Got some documents from John White and David Kelsey (linked under references on the wiki) will read them asap.
  • More contacts:
    • Jon will ask John Gordon for contact within EGI to ask NGIs for requirements
    • Riccardo will contact DGAS to get input from developers as well
    • Suggestion: It would be good to have a separate mailing list for storage accounting so that we could add external contact persons and easier keep track of all our mails. Jon will try to get a list set up.
  • Initial SAR format
    • We should get started with defining the actual format of the SAR - Jon will try to make an initial draft so we can discuss it per mail
  • OGF UR
    • It would be preferable to extend OGF UR or base SAR on OGF UR - we should all read through OGF UR
  • Next meeting
    • Jon in Taipei, needs a deputy - Zsolt will prepare next meeting on Thursday 14 October
