How to recreate an ETICS SL5 or SL6 image

The ETICS images are a basic installation of SL5 or SL6 plus EPEL repositories.

Detailed steps:

• 1.- Download and install the SL image: http://www.scientificlinux.org/download
  • Current ETICS systems is using SL5.5 and SL6.1 versions
  • During the installation, uncheck ALL packages. In this way you will get a clean machine with only the minimum set of packages installed
• 2.- Add the EPEL repositories from the web site (http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/EPEL/FAQ#How_can_I_install_the_packages_from_the_EPEL_software_repository.3F)
• 3.- Install these packages
  • ntp
  • cvs
  • subversion
  • rpmdevtools
• 4.- Run this command: rpmdev-rmdevelrpms
  • More information about this command: http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Packaging/Guidelines#rpmdev-rmdevelrpms
• 5.- These packages are considered the minimum build environment. Please check if they are present in yours installation

The ETICS team will provide the HyperV images and a list of tools to convert the images from this format to the most used ones.

Image repository:

• SL5 HyperV image: http://eticssoft.web.cern.ch/eticssoft/internal/public/MinimalImages/SL5_MinimalImage.zip (ask ETICS team for the root pass)
• SL6 HyperV image: http://eticssoft.web.cern.ch/eticssoft/internal/public/MinimalImages/SL6_MinimalImage.zip (ask ETICS team for the root pass)
