VMware Server Installation
The installation under RH-compatible OSes can be performed using the RPM packages locaded under
- /afs/cern.ch/project/etics/internal/public/dist/VMWareServer-1.0.X - sever v1.0.X
- /afs/cern.ch/project/etics/internal/public/dist/VMWareServer-2.0.0 - server v2.0.X
For other distributions one needs to look on the VMWAre Inc. pages:

VMWare Server configuration after kernel upgrade
In case the OS kernel changes an creation of new kernel-specific VMWare Server modules is needed. The simplest way is to start the node with the desired kernel - in most cases a simply reboot command will suffice. After that running the command
vmware-config.pl and acepting the default values does the job.
It should be noted that simple kernel upgrade (as periodically happens due to OS evolution) does not trigger the necessity of kernel modules recompilation. The module recompilation is only needed upon the new kernel version deployed in operation. To learn, which version is operational at a given time one can use the command
uname -r.
