When Remote Builds Fail

Information on the builds submitted to the ETICS system can be seen http://etics.cern.ch/nmi/index.php?page=results/overview.

Search parameters can be specified to filter the list of run results. Platform, project and component are normally the parameters you will specify. Search per user is broken.

Once found the run you're looking for, click on the ID to go to the task details page. The task is divided into 7 subtasks

  • fetch.eticsBuildSystem
  • post_all
  • common.put
  • platform_job
  • remote_declare
  • remote_task
  • remote_post

For each subtask, the start time, the duration, and whether the subtask was completed is indicated. Most important, the standard output and the standard error are available.

Links may go broken at some point in time.

Consider the GGUS ticket at ticket https://gus.fzk.de/ws/ticket_info.php?ticket=37651. The user complains that despite he received a Success response for her job, the artifacts aren't registered to the repository.

First we need to find the task. Knowing the project, the component, the platform, and the date the build was submitted restrict the list to five hits. The start time normally does the rest. The task we are interested in is #83142

Once identified the task, we need to understand what went wrong. Apparently nothing, since all the subtasks completed. Since the problem is likely to be with the registration of the artifacts to the repository, we inspect the output of the post_all subtask. We look for the section where artefacts are registered to the repository, and there we go.
