FASER Computing Resources

This page summarizes the computing resources available to FASER (including FASERnu). At the moment this just covers storage space at CERN.

Disk Space at CERN

• The disk usage and quota for an eos space can be checked with this command:

EOS_MGM_URL=root://eospublic.cern.ch eos quota  /eos/experiment/faser

Space for commissioning data

• We have a 20 TB eos space called /eos/project/f/faser-commissioning/ (accessible through lxplus).
• Access (read/write) is controlled through the e-groups: cernbox-project-faser-commissioning-readers / cernbox-project-faser-commissioning-writers which can be edited by people on the e-group: cernbox-project-faser-commissioning-admins
• The eos space is linked to the faser service account (owned by Jamie - ask him if you need the password).

• This space is for storing calibration data, and the output of calibration analysis. (Mostly related to the tracker commissioning, but also some calorimeter / scintillator related calibration data will be stored there).

• This space was created on 13/7/2020, before that the tracker calibration data was stored on /eos/user/f/fasersct/ (associated with the secondary account of Yosuke called fasersct) - but this was limited to 1TB of space which is now filled.

Space for FASERnu pilot run data

• 20 TB eos space called /eos/project/f/fasernu-pilot-run/ (accessible through lxplus).
• Access (read/write) is controlled through the e-groups: cernbox-project-fasernu-pilot-run-readers (anyone in this egroup can read in the project space) cernbox-project-fasernu-pilot-run-writers (anyone in this egroup can read, write and delete in the project space). Everybody in the faser-all e-group can signup by themselves.
• Admin group is : cernbox-project-fasernu-pilot-run-admins

• The eos space is linked to the fasernu.service account (owned by Aki - ask him if you need the password).

• This space is for storing the pilot run data, and the MC data.
• This space was created on 15/7/2020
• The following 2 folders are pre-created:
• /eos/project/f/fasernu-pilot-run/www/ (folder for hosting an EOS-site-type website)
• /eos/project/f/fasernu-pilot-run/public/ (public folder for all CERN authenticated users

Space for pre-shower upgrade studies

• We have a 5 TB eos space called /eos/project/f/faser-preshower(accessible through lxplus).
• Access (read/write) is controlled through the e-groups: cernbox-project-faser-preshower-readers / cernbox-project-faser-preshower-writers which can be edited by people on the e-group: cernbox-project-faser-preshower-admins
• The eos space is linked to the faser service account (owned by Jamie - ask him if you need the password).
• This space was created on 1/9/2021

Space for FASERnu data

• 300 TB eos space called /eos/experiment/fasernu-data0 (accessible through lxplus or xrootd).
• Access (read/write) is controlled through the e-groups: eos-experiment-fasernu-data0-readers (anyone in this egroup can read in the project space) eos-experiment-fasernu-data0-writers (anyone in this egroup can read, write and delete in the project space). Please ask if you need to be added to these groups.
• This space is for storing the FASERnu data, and the MC data(?).
• This space was created on 1/9/2022

Space for data

• 100 TB space called /eos/experiment/faser (This was upgraded to 150 TB on 3/11 due to an emergency situation, quota to be re-discussed with CERN IT after end of 2022 running)
• Owner account faserdaq but access controlled also through e-groups: eos-experiment-faser-readers / eos-experiment-faser-writers
• Raw data backed up from this space to tape using CTA
