Physics Motivation

7 Reasons for FCC-ee

The article 7 reasons by John Ellis and Panagiotis Charitos gives a motivation for the continued exploration of particle-physics with an intensity frontier lepton collider:

  1. Within the Standard Model, the electroweak vacuum is unstable against decay to high Higgs field values.
  2. The Standard Model has no candidate for the astrophysical dark matter.
  3. The Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa (CKM) Model does not explain the origin of the matter in the universe.
  4. The Standard Model does not have a satisfactory mechanism for generating neutrino masses.
  5. The Standard Model does not explain or stabilize the hierarchy of mass scales in physics.
  6. The Standard Model does not have a satisfactory mechanism for cosmological inflation.
  7. We need a quantum theory of gravity.
