DICOM Extended Example

WORK in progress: wait for next release! It si scheduled on Dec 15th, 2009

Overview

The DICOM example converts a list of DICOM files (.dcm) to ASCII files (.g4dcm) that can be read by Geant4. The text files contain Hounsfield numbers describing a CT-calibration phantom (PhantomCT.jpg) and are converted to densities according to a conversion table provided in the file CT2density.dat (scanner specific). A Geant4 geometry is then created for the phantom using the G4PhantomParameterisation class.

The example is located in the geant4/examples/extended/medical/DICOM tree. The following files can be found in the DICOM directory:

File ContentSorted ascending
CT2Density.dat calibration of HU into materials using the phantom used for CT calibration
PhantomCT.jpg image of the phantom used for CT calibration, that is the same of the DICOM images
README information on hiw to run the example (Read it first!!!)
Data.dat it contains the input information for reading DICOM files
Colourmap.dat it defines the colour of the different DICOM materials
vis.mac macro file for visualisation using OpenGL
run.mac macro for batch mode
dicom.cc main

Known problems

A patch will be delivered soon to solve the compiling problem of the DICOM Extended example as reported in Bugzilla

If you want to use it now follow the instruction reported here to solve the problem:

  1. copy G4RegNavHelper.cc in source/geometry/navigation/src
  2. copy G4RegNavHelper.hh in source/geometry/navigation/include
  3. copy G4Regularnavigation.cc in source/geometry/navigation/src

compile the Geant4 source code and go back to the DICOM Extended example. Now it will work.
