Meeting to discuss Potential collaboration with CERN on validation tools
Oct 28 2015
FNAL: Krzysztof, Julia, Hans
SLAC: Andrea
CERN: federico, Alberto, Dimitri, Witek, Gunter

We went through the following list of topics:

- currently we only have one dimensional data, we all agreed that
the ability to store multidimensional data is required
(e.g. to deal with covariance matrices which is a requirement by the Genie
collaboration which wants to use this db)

- compatibility: currently the database is hosted on a postgresql server
and makes use of two extensions that are specific to postgres. One
is the use of arrays, the other is the use of blobs.
The use of this extensions was deemed necessary but the use is only at the
lowest software layer which would have to be swapped if we decide to change
the storage technology. The API is based on the data access object (DAO)
software design pattern and provides an abstract interface.
So if we ever decide to use another technology this would be fairly

- IO formats: xml, json, root, csv (distinguish between input and output)

- combination plots: currently this are created on the fly by matching
experiments and tests with matching metadata. (another possibility would be
like we do for default where we use vector of links to data we want overlayed)

- meta data: we need a phase to discuss and design the database schema and meta

-Authentication (upload/delete/edit): Currently password/role based with
user database provided by glassfish web server), we want to evaluate using
the cern single sign on mechanism since every geant 4 collaborator already
has an account.

- access to database: For now CERN is fine with read only access. Write requests should be fulfilled within a few business days.

- meetings we decided to have weekly meetings to kick off the project using
the current time slot. (4pm CERN, 9am FNAL, 7 am SLAC every wednesday)

Action items:

-CERN: work on meta data and schema to present for discussion.
Look into C++ API which should mirror the JAVA API as much as possible.
Review the current JAVA API.
Provide the data of the simplified Calorimeter for all future public releases and a new test Julia
suggested test 19
-Andrea: setting up wikis/jira for collaboration done (see emails)
-Hans : Authentication. upload
-Julia: add more tests in histogram form.
