Welcome to the Honexcomb web
HonexComb is initiated thanks to the
Strong 2020
initiative. The original submitted work package (WP19, JRA1, called
LHC-Combine) can be found
here. Extract:
We believe that the time has come to improve communication between the four collaborations in the heavy-ion field, and establish an LHC data-combination working group. These objectives can be split into two tasks: The animation of a common forum to ensure a regular communication between the four collaborations; and cross-experiment combination work, such as detailed comparisons of techniques or optimized statistical combination of results, leading to common publications. Possible combination topics
On-going projects
- Combining the open charm results from the 3 or 4 collaborations: HonexcombCharmSection (Gian-Michel Innocenti for Alice, Jiayin Sun for LHCb, Achim Geiser for CMS...)
Possible subjects
At the time of the proposal, four topics were listed, then reviewed during the
first meeting
, identifying
Possible subjects of combination:
- Light-by-light scattering
- Possible: Final run 2 combination of light-by-light scattering
- Constraining nPDF
- Possible: Would we gain in combining the lower statistics signals, e.g. Z or W bosons in the forward region from LHCb and Alice?
- Action: discuss needs with nPDF makers
- Heavy flavours
- Possible: Total cross section of charm, beauty (?)
- Possible: Pseudo-rapidty dependences
- Possible: Baryon/meson ratio, would be nice from LHCb
- Possible: Open beauty > LUT from the theory?
- Quarkonia
- Possible: Upsilons, a nice combination paper for run 3? Intriguing comparison btw ATLAS and CMS, to be followed up…
Other subjects, proposed in meetings
- Possible: X(3872) ?
- Possible: Jets ?
- Possible: nPDF from UPC ?
Possible other activities
Observables
- On-going activity about Glauber baseline
- Action: Review the multiplicity definitions
Others
- Action: Popularize the top quark studies
- Possible: Make and endorse summary plots?

Strong 2020:
This project is part of the Strong 2020 activities (
http://www.strong-2020.eu
). The STRONG-2020 project brings together many of the leading research groups and infrastructures involved today in the study of the strong interaction in Europe, and also exploits the innovation potential in applied research through the development of detector systems with applications beyond fundamental physics, e.g. for medical imaging and information technology. The Consortium includes 44 participant institutions, embracing 14 EU Member States, one International EU Interest Organization (CERN), and one EU candidate country. Together with host institutions of 21 other countries, without EU funds benefits, the project involves research in 36 countries. The project is structured in 32 Work Packages (WP): 7 Transnational Access Activities (TA), 2 Virtual Access Activities (VA), 7 Networking Activities (NA) and 14 Joint Research Activities (JRA). Furthermore, 2 WPs take care, respectively, of the “Management and Coordination” of the project and of “Communication and Outreach".
