Introduction

SPIRES has a database, Hepnames, that contains the authors and Affiliation history, as well as PhD advisors. The affiliations are ranked according to dates started and by whether it is a current affiliation.

Conversion Process

The marcxml for hepnames was created right out of spires using a gen-file formatt, **orv.li.sul.spimarcxml, and a spires file table for translating spires elements to marc fields and subfields called SPIRES2MARC.
