SC4 Disk - Tape Transfer Targets

The disk - tape Tier0 -> Tier1 transfer targets for the SC4 disk - tape throughput phase are:

  • 75MB/s per Tier1 site or
  • 60MB/s for PIC as per disk - disk target
  • 50MB/s for those sites (NDGF, TRIUMF) that have this as their full nominal rate

These are significantly lower than the full nominal rates that sites will later have to support, reduced in order to reflect the current tape technology and infrastructure that is installed.

Full nominal rate tests are officially scheduled for July - to be reviewed based on site acquisition and installation plans as provided to the LCG MB, and on experience with repeated disk - disk tests. (We need to be able to regularly and rapidly achieve disk - disk transfers at or above full nominal).

The following is the plot of BNL's tape transfer rate:

CNAF

CNAF has switched to tape testing on Apr 19 at 6 p.m. So far, we downloaded 18 TB, which gives an average rate to tape - over approx. 47 hours - of 106 MB/s

Update (Apr 28): Estimated Overall Rate to Tape (from Tue Apr 19 to Thu Apr 27): 76.94 MB/s (6 tape drives in use)
