On 26th of October 2006 it was decided (by Harry Renshall and his team) to move all nodes from the prod-bdii-exp alias (which is an alias for exp-bdii) to lcg-bdii alias.

What nodes ?

on lxplus you can run /usr/bin/CDBHosts -cl gridbdii --data "hostname, clustersubname"

This gives:

bdii101 lcg-bdii
bdii102 lcg-bdii
bdii103 prod-bdii
bdii104 prod-bdii
bdii105 exp-bdii
bdii106 exp-bdii
bdii107 exp-bdii
bdii108 lcg-bdii

and behind the "lcg-bdii" alias we currently have:

host lcg-bdii
lcg-bdii.cern.ch has address 128.142.173.206
lcg-bdii.cern.ch has address 128.142.160.9
lcg-bdii.cern.ch has address 128.142.160.74

CDB update for the node configuration

We want to move bdii105,6,7 to "lcg-bdii". This is done in CDB by moving the machines from one subcluster to another. The current structure of the templates allow to do that with the LEAFChangeProfile interface on lxadm:

/usr/bin/LEAFChangeProfile -newtype gridbdii_lcg_slc3 --list bdii105,bdii106,bdii107 (*)

Then one has to run "ncm-ncd --conf loadbalancing" on the servers (lxservb02, lxservb01).

CDB update for the alias itself

If we don't touch the definition of lcg-bdii alias, we will still get only 3 nodes reported. As we want all 6 nodes to be reported by the DNS, the CDB configuration of the alias itself needs to be updated:

in pro_component_loadbalancing.tpl

change

"/software/components/loadbalancing/clusters/lcg-bdii/best_hosts"       = 3;

to

"/software/components/loadbalancing/clusters/lcg-bdii/best_hosts"       = 6;

Then one has to run "ncm-ncd --conf loadbalancing" on the servers (lxservb02 for test, lxservb01 for production). Follow the evolution of the lcg-bdii definition on the server: tail -f /var/log/lb/lbd.log | grep -i bdii

Oct 26 11:02:01 contacted cluster: lcg-bdii node: bdii105 - reply was 96
Oct 26 11:02:02 contacted cluster: lcg-bdii node: bdii102 - reply was 96
Oct 26 11:02:03 contacted cluster: lcg-bdii node: bdii107 - reply was 91
Oct 26 11:02:04 contacted cluster: lcg-bdii node: bdii106 - reply was 100
Oct 26 11:02:05 contacted cluster: lcg-bdii node: bdii101 - reply was 96
Oct 26 11:02:05 contacted cluster: lcg-bdii node: bdii108 - reply was 93
Oct 26 11:02:05 best hosts for LCG-BDII are: bdii107 bdii108 bdii102 bdii105 bdii101 bdii106
Oct 26 11:02:05 itfio-internal - DNS update of lcg-bdii.cern.ch with 128.142.173.137 128.142.173.206 128.142.160.74 128.142.160.10 128.142.160.9 128.142.160.90 succeeded
Oct 26 11:02:05 itfio-internal - cluster lcg-bdii.cern.ch is OK
Oct 26 11:02:06 itfio-external - DNS update of lcg-bdii.cern.ch with 128.142.173.137 128.142.173.206 128.142.160.74 128.142.160.10 128.142.160.9 128.142.160.90 succeeded
Oct 26 11:02:06 itfio-external - cluster lcg-bdii.cern.ch is OK

Now we have:

 CDBHosts -cluster gridbdii -data "hostname,clustersubname"
bdii101 lcg-bdii
bdii102 lcg-bdii
bdii103 prod-bdii
bdii104 prod-bdii
bdii105 lcg-bdii
bdii106 lcg-bdii
bdii107 lcg-bdii
bdii108 lcg-bdii
host lcg-bdii
lcg-bdii.cern.ch has address 128.142.173.206
lcg-bdii.cern.ch has address 128.142.160.9
lcg-bdii.cern.ch has address 128.142.160.10
lcg-bdii.cern.ch has address 128.142.160.74
lcg-bdii.cern.ch has address 128.142.160.90
lcg-bdii.cern.ch has address 128.142.173.137

(*) The "newtype" is the name of the cluster template, as reported by CDBDump in the "tpl" field:

/usr/bin/CDBDump bdii101 gives:
